Ahamore Abbey, Derrynane, Co. Kerry

Conservation of historic masonry through repair, repointing and protective flaunching.

The 2026 works at Ahamore Abbey centred on protecting its surviving masonry from continued weathering and vegetation damage. Invasive growth was carefully removed from the wall faces and joints, allowing the stonework to be properly assessed and repaired without disturbing sound historic fabric.

Exposed wall heads were finished with lime flaunching to help shed rainwater and reduce moisture entering the core of the walls. These interventions improved the ruin’s stability and resilience while retaining its irregular stonework and sense of age, which give the Abbey its character.
