Estate-wide conservation of historic masonry, cottages, bridges and boundary walls.

Across a 25-month programme, conservation works were carried out to some of Adare Manor’s most important structures; from its 17th-century boundary walls and vernacular cottages to the principal manor building itself. Detailed surveys guided the careful removal of vegetation and failed mortar, followed by masonry repairs, rebuilding and repointing with NHL 2 and NHL 3.5 lime mortars selected for each setting.

Original stone was salvaged wherever possible, with locally sourced material carefully matched where replacements were unavoidable. The works also included pointing and cladding to the manor, localised underpinning, drainage improvements and the construction and restoration of twelve hand-cut natural stone bridges. Discreet ties and stone stitching stabilised vulnerable areas, while lost details were reconstructed from historic evidence, preserving the estate’s many layers of craftsmanship without diminishing the character built up over centuries.
