Kyrie Eleison Abbey, Abbeydorney, Co. Kerry

Masonry repairs, repointing and vegetation removal to a historic abbey ruin.

The 2026 conservation programme at Kyrie Eleison Abbey focused on stabilising vulnerable masonry while preserving the quiet, weathered character of this important site. Vegetation and embedded growth were carefully removed to expose the condition of the stonework without causing further disturbance to the historic fabric.

Loose and deteriorated areas were repaired before failed joints were repointed with compatible mortar, helping the walls shed water while remaining breathable. Lime flaunching was applied to exposed wall heads and areas of masonry loss, providing discreet protection against water ingress and future weathering. Each intervention was kept to what was necessary.
