Restoration and stabilisation of a 17th-century estate wall.

The boundary wall at Adare Manor is an important part of the estate’s historic landscape. Centuries of weathering had left sections bulging, locally collapsed and weakened by failed mortar. Acting as Main Contractor and PSCS, we surveyed and recorded the existing fabric before carefully clearing vegetation and dismantling unstable masonry by hand.

Original stone was salvaged and reused, supplemented with matching local limestone where required. Sections were rebuilt and repointed in breathable lime mortar, with localised underpinning, stainless-steel ties and stone stitching used only where necessary. Improved drainage helped reduce pressure behind the wall and limit future frost damage. Traditional “fox runs” were also retained within the masonry, allowing wildlife to move through the estate while preserving the wall’s distinctive character.
