Conservation and restoration of a protected late-18th-century cottage.

Dunraven Cottage had stood in Adare since the late 1700s, but deteriorating mortar, vegetation and areas of unstable stonework were beginning to place its historic fabric at risk. Acting as Main Contractor and PSCS, we assessed and documented the building before carefully removing vegetation and failed pointing.

Original stone was cleaned and reused wherever possible, with locally sourced matching stone introduced only where necessary. Compromised sections were rebuilt and repointed using NHL 3.5 lime mortar, with softer NHL 2 mortar used in more delicate areas. Historically appropriate aggregate helped the repairs blend naturally with the existing walls, while close monitoring during curing ensured a durable finish that preserves the cottage’s character for the future.
