Repair and stabilisation of a pre-1700 cemetery wall on the Ring of Kerry road.

This historic cemetery wall had become structurally unstable and was in danger of collapsing onto the adjoining road. Working for Kerry County Council, loose and displaced sections of masonry were carefully dismantled where necessary and rebuilt to restore the wall’s stability, profile and traditional character.

The presence of graves immediately inside the boundary made this a particularly sensitive project. All work was carried out under archaeological supervision, with careful control of the dismantling and reinstatement process to protect the burial ground and historic fabric. The completed repair secured the roadside boundary while preserving the natural irregularity and time-worn appearance of the original stonework.
